about a year ago we joined a competition to really get us going in popularity. We signed up for a competition called Can Your School Rock (I previously mentioned this on the first blog post). It was scheduled to be aired on Global Montreal and Toronto the summer that just passed. We went through the competition writing new songs. The songs started to really get so much better after the last. The competition was basically an AMERICAN IDOL style of competition. each band had a task to do each round like for example: play a cover song from a selective list of bands and play an original ballad song. We went through each round really out performing ourselves every week until we made it to the final round. we had to play 4 original songs. By the end of this competition we really ended up having a complete repertoire of new music. The music was well composed considering we had to write new material between the rounds. We were some what pressured to write and this really brought us together and allowed us to write amazing songs. We were all really excited to win this competition. We were so happy when they the judges chose us to win.
The rewards for the winner WERE the following:
-20,000$ of equipment sponsored by Steve's Music Store
-A record deal with Can Your School Rock.
-Music video sponsored by Statefarm Insurance
-Photoshoot
-1,000$ package from Sennheiser
-3,000$ package with Godin Guitars.
but you know what's funny from hearing this? it sounds like.. OH man that is amazing. whattaaaa great competition.. NOO ITS NOT .. everything was lies! they lied to us on TV. 5 episodes were aired and this is what they promised but this is what we actually got.
-roughly 4,000$ of equipment
-NO RECORD DEAL AS OF YET. NO SERIOUS TALKS.
-1,000$ package from Sennheiser
and 1,500 $ worth of Guitars from Godin Guitars.
They screwed us. Big time. The worst part of the whole thing is making us believe that we were going to record an album but there has yet to be any serious talks for recording an album. The creator of the show continues to make us believe that we're going to record soon but this has been said for 8 months now. WE LOVE waiting for false hope.
